I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation event

I am donating this painting for the I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation event at Newport on the Levee. Since several women in my family have been affected by breast cancer, this is an important cause for me. Here is the press release for the event:
*****
Friday, October 8, 2010, StoneBrook Winery and Art On The Levee Gallery join forces for one great cause! Ladies Night Wine Tasting & Art Review will take place at the Newport Levee, on the Riverwalk level (across from AMC ticket booth) from 5pm-10pm. Free admission, complimentary appetizers, music by Tim Collins, raffle of local artists artwork, 15% discount with case purchase. 10% of all sales go to I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation.

I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation supports Tri-State women of all ages as they face the challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. All the proceeds from The Ladies Night Wine Tasting & Art Review will help I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation continue its programs and services in our local community.

Beginner's jitters

Seated Female Nude with Wig 2010
oil on canvas

This model had never posed nude before, and was very nervous. She was also wearing an interesting wig, which was a dark auburn color. I made the wig purple in the painting, in order to really highlight its unnatural quality, as well as complement the orange tones of her skin.

The observer is the observed

Seated Female Nude 2010
oil on canvas

This model had a great sense of humor. She said it was fun watching us paint her ... she was making fun of the faces we would make and our individual routines while going through the process of making a painting. When you're painting a model, it's easy to forget they are observing you too!

Emily Seated

Emily Seated (2010)
oil on canvas

This model was very young and pretty. She looked like a fawn. She was an artist herself, and had just graduated from college.

The Runner

The Runner (2010)
oil on canvas

This model was amazing ... he was able to stand for 2 1/2 hours completely motionless. He was in good shape, too ... I heard he was a runner.

Angela

Angela Seated with Robe (2010)
oil on canvas

I've painted Angela many times over the last several years. Angela is a middle-aged woman, but she has a young, innocent spirit. In some paintings I've done she looks more mature, and in others she looks youthful. I think she looks more mature in this painting.

Stately Punk Chick

Julia Seated (2010)
oil on canvas

This model was interesting, because she has the face of a stately matriarch and the hair of a punky hipster.

Seated Female Nude

Seated Female Nude, 2009
oil on canvas

I never caught this model's name. She was young, intelligent, fiercely attractive and very self-possessed. After painting her for two hours in my Figure Painting class, I had to go back and redo a lot later, but I'm happy with how it finally turned out.

Denise Seated

Denise Seated, 2009
oil on canvas

This is another painting from the fall Figure Painting class at the Art Academy. This model's name is Denise. I enjoyed painting her because she had a funky style, a beautiful face, and a fuller figure. From where I was sitting, she was being bathed in the light of the lamp.

Christopher on the Couch

Christopher on the Couch
oil on canvas

Painting someone at home allowed me to spend a lot more time on the painting than the 2 1/2 hours I usually get with a model at the Art Academy. This is one of my favorite paintings I've done in a long time.

Seated Older Man

Seated Older Man
oil on canvas

I love painting different kinds of people. A lot of models at the Art Academy tend to be thin, female, and Caucasian, so it was fun to get to paint someone so different. This older man had a lot of character ... he was really interesting to paint, and it was fun to see the way the artists in the class interpreted him.
